I’m offering another picture for dreaming – the view looking down a path framed with garden arches at Chatsworth House. We visited the garden for the first time last year on the same day as the RHS Chatsworth Flower Show.
Too tempting to miss, we thought, as we could see how splendid it all looked on the hillside across from the showground. So was that a good idea? Yes, I do recommend a visit but no, not on the same day as a flower show, not unless you have lots of stamina and are willing to feel slightly haunted that you missed something by running around too fast then being (courteously) ushered out by the gardeners.
It does seem ironic to write this when we can’t go anywhere, and a thirty minute stroll there would be heavenly, but you know what I mean.
If seeing my highlights from the Chatsworth Flower Show might lift your day, you can choose from 2019 and 2018.
Sadly, there will be no 2020 show, but at least some horticulture related businesses are booming. I was amazed this morning to see that Sutton’s Seeds has a waiting list to get on to their website – 3,532 people ahead of me. I hope all those seeds are going to get planted!
Shared for Becky’s April Squares: over the top.
Lovely. I’m having fantasies about walking through Dumbarton Oaks, but it’s likely closed–and if open would be a bit dangerously crowded. Stay safe.
Yes, it’s better to stay safe. My walk today was a lot less scenic than this, but it was easy to keep my distance.
ooh I was also just on Suttons, didn’t take long to get to the front of the queue but what I wanted – growbags – long sold out!
So it was you!!! It said there wasn’t much of a wait which makes me wonder how many orders they are processing per hour! Grow bags have become a lot more tempting over the last few weeks.
Sorry!! I didn’t buy in the end, without growbags there’s only so much I can grow.
Only teasing! I was just there to look up something – I didn’t want to know it enough to wait in the queue.
I suspect queue was bad as they had just sent out a marketing email, might be worth trying again today
1642 people online. I’m only looking out of curiosity as I found out whatever it was I wanted some other way. Google sent me there – it probably sees the traffic and thinks it’s the new place to be.
Incredible isn’t it . . as you say hope everyone does plant their seeds
Beautiful. I loved archways over paths.
It was a very interesting garden – one of those you look back on long after you’ve left it.
I do know what you mean! What an enchanting pathway. Looks as though it is leading to a secret garden.
It wouldn’t have seemed surprising to see children in Edwardian dresses playing here.
The view through and beyond the arches is the healthiest thing I could look at right now. It is a most excellent dream. Of course I revisited the two flower shows and dreamed there too. Thank you!
I’m glad you took good advantage of them!
Utterly delightful
Thanks, Sheree.
We’ll miss the cherry blossoms this year in Toronto.
I am trying not to think of all the gardens flowering without anyone there to see them. They will still need almost as much looking after of course too.
Magical! I imagine I would here fairies whispering all along the pathway.
I can understand why.
A delightful view. I’ve given up on plants, seeds this year, other than what I already have and what was ordered months ago. I was planning a quieter year anyway, allowing plants to settle in. Just as well, though I would have liked a couple of tomato plants.
Our small wishes seem quite pathetic now don’t they? Things we could have picked up before with hardly a thought. I am like Becky, wishing I’d picked up a couple of grow bags.
Mind you, I didn’t notice too many gaps in your garden this weekend!
This looks so beautiful. I can dream about visiting it someday, but it’s nice to see it today!
Thanks, Dawn. It’s a dream for me to go back there too!
