I’ve shared Mixed Media Artist Debie Deaton’s felt art characters before, here and here. Every character’s expression is designed to lift our spirits and make us smile, and many of their names are funny too. You can find more on Debie’s Instagram feed:
WordPress announced yesterday that they’re bringing back Discover prompts during April. The rules are slightly different this time. Writers, photographers and any other kind of creative interpretations are welcomed. Today’s prompt is joke… I’m claiming these are jocular.

Very jocular indeed! Oh, they made me smile. I particularly like the last one—grey head. Sort of describes me. 😉
The grey head is one of my favourites too. I had to blur the nose to focus on the eyes, but what an expression! Rather like the look my sweetheart gives me when I’m laughing at my own uber-feeble jokes.
Tee-hee!
Debie got in touch to tell me the head is from a series of stones she calls her ‘Rock Group’.
They are! Just what’s needed.
They’re guaranteed to lift my spirits.
They are perfect 👌
I’m glad you like them, Aggie.
Is she on YouTube? Would love to watch videos of her making some of these – love the bugs!!
I am pretty sure she is not, but I’ll check and let you know if I’m wrong. It’s a very time consuming process so the videos would be loooong. 🙂
Thank You😁
I remember these! I’m all about that feathered chapeau, but they all take the edge of the time. Thanks!
Each one is special but to see them all together is wonderful as the way she stages them makes them appear to interact. When I look at these pictures I remember how rapt I was to see them.
These Dw wonderful; thank you for making me smile. I love the pod people; I’ve tried to sculpt faces from polymer clay and I know how difficult it is.
She’s really talented and a lovely person to boot.
I love stuff like this. So much imagination and color and–yes–jocularity (or fun) in it. Thanks for bringing more to us.
My pleasure – and I’m sure it would be Debie’s too!
That first bug is my favorite, but all are clever and smile-producing. I’m passing this on to a friend who does felting. She made a squirrel and cardinal for me to hang on my Christmas tree — it was the first time I’d seen the process, but it’s obviously quite popular.
You reminded me I’d forgotten to put one of my favourites in – the stripey bug (now remedied). You need to treasure that friend!
So creative and fun🙂
The expressions are just perfect.
So cute 🙂
I’m glad you like them. 🙂
Some of those puppets express pretty well how I feel at the moment.
Very good point. I just looked back at the expressions and I think I go through all of these in a day too!
