Please visit my blog, where I celebrate gardening, nature, photos and creativity. As you'll quickly discover, I love most flowers. I'm here to have a little fun with other bloggers, finding new insights at every step of the way. I enjoy all forms of photography, from macro to more impressionistic shots, so often visit photography blogs to see what other people are sharing. I write about my other interests too including marketing, design, travel and writing - and, rather to my surprise - about the odd issue affecting us all that I just can't resist commenting on. The website link will take you to my home page, but please click on 'Blog' to see what I'm really up to!

Turquoise Door With Yellow Loosestrife

Old turquoise doorway surrounded by ferns and plants

Four vigorous plants, growing together in a little, rock-edged garden without too much care (at a guess): a fern, Alchemilla mollis, Lysimachia punctata and Crocosmia.

Darwen’s moist climate has washed the door almost back to wood, while the window has been blocked in more than once. Continue reading “Turquoise Door With Yellow Loosestrife”

The Hebden Bridge Handmade Parade: A Photo Gallery

Street parade sets off in Hebden Bridge

One of many events cancelled this year was Hebden Bridge’s quirky, colourful street parade, Handmade Parade, named because the participants make the puppets, costumes and parade art over three weeks of workshops. I hope my pictures give some of the flavour of a special day. Continue reading “The Hebden Bridge Handmade Parade: A Photo Gallery”

Lilium ‘Marlon’, a Pink Oriental Lily

Lilium 'Marlon', a huge, pink Oriental lily

Lilium Marlon has huge, wonderfully scented, upward-facing flowers, held on sturdy stems. Each petal has a wavy edge, traced out in white, and a smattering of freckles. Continue reading “Lilium ‘Marlon’, a Pink Oriental Lily”

Plants Outside the Gardener’s Bothy at Rousham

Gardener's bothy covered with plants at Rousham

I wonder how many different cultivars there are in this small collection of pelargoniums and other potted plants at Rousham in Oxfordshire? Continue reading “Plants Outside the Gardener’s Bothy at Rousham”

Lathyrus odoratus ‘Spencer Mix’

Lathyrus odoratus 'Spencer Mix' sweet peas

Lathyrus ‘Spencer Mix’ is sweet pea seed blend that includes white and dark flowers, and clear shades of pink, red, lilac and purple.

Sweet peas are sun lovers, but like their roots in cool, moist soil. They are usually grown for cutting: the more assiduously you pick the flowers, the more the plants will produce.  Continue reading “Lathyrus odoratus ‘Spencer Mix’”

Contrasting House Colours and Trims in New Orleans

Orange and purple brick wall in New Orleans
New Orleans-style brick wall

In Lancashire, our buildings are conservatively coloured. We don’t use each feature as an excuse to add a new colour. I wish we did. Continue reading “Contrasting House Colours and Trims in New Orleans”
