Please visit my blog, where I celebrate gardening, nature, photos and creativity. As you'll quickly discover, I love most flowers. I'm here to have a little fun with other bloggers, finding new insights at every step of the way. I enjoy all forms of photography, from macro to more impressionistic shots, so often visit photography blogs to see what other people are sharing. I write about my other interests too including marketing, design, travel and writing - and, rather to my surprise - about the odd issue affecting us all that I just can't resist commenting on. The website link will take you to my home page, but please click on 'Blog' to see what I'm really up to!

Darwen Town and Market Hall with Christmas Tree, Lockdown 2020

Darwen Christmas tree during lockdown, November 2020

I took this picture of Darwen’s Christmas decorations yesterday, less than an hour after sunset. The town hall clock stopped some time ago, so if you can make out the dial, that’s a misdirection: sunset is just before 4 o’clock here in Northern England by the end of November. Autumn Gleanings And Thanksgiving Wishes

Produce gathered in Autumn in Jackson MS

Wishing my American friends a very happy Thanksgiving.

For the last few years I’ve been in Mississippi to enjoy the day with some lovely people, but 2020 had other ideas. Although I know y’all can celebrate perfectly well without the British (I’ve been there for Independence Day too 🙂 ), I decided that a blog celebration was in order. Hip-Bearing Roses: Rugosas

Any rose producing round, tomato-like hips with long, wriggly appendages is a rugosa. The edible, orange-red hips turn sweeter after a frost and provide a good source of antioxidants and vitamin C. While the comparison with tomatoes or crab apples is more common, they remind me of Christmas tree baubles. Continue reading “Hip-Bearing Roses: Rugosas”

Carved Rock Found on Moorland

Large, flat rock found on moorland with etched patterns

I’m sharing a puzzle with you today: a patterned rock we found a few years ago, somewhere in the North of England. Don’t ask me precisely where, because I’m not sure. It was one of many small treats you find on a moorland walk. If you tend to see things in patterns, there’s scope for the imagination in its ornate surface.  Continue reading “Carved Rock Found on Moorland”
