Matsumoto asters are popular with florists, being larger and showier than your average aster. This posy was part of an arrangement in the floristry section of this year’s Southport Flower Show. More from there to come.
We happened upon a good patch of the small, starry wild asters flowering on open land on the outskirts of town a few days ago. Relatively common in my youth, I now think of them as treats.
It had been quite a hike and I was too absorbed to think of taking a picture. I hope many readers will be familiar enough with them to see them in their mind’s eye.
Shared for Cee’s FOTD.

I find that these direct my eye around their little world: the grapes, the ivy, fern…and those superb roses! That tease of pink! And then something lilac-y behind the roses. These asters are most generous in sharing the spotlight. I look forward to the “more to come.”
I did not think that bud would escape your attention! They have a nice social group of like-minded flower friends.
Gorgeous, either way 🤗💜
I’m glad you liked them.
I do like a good aster. So much nicer than showy-offy dahlias.
Don’t let Cee hear you say that!
She already knows that the dahlia is my least favourite flower 😉
Well, if she can’t change your mind, nobody can.
Are these what are known as Chinese Asters? They are very showy!
You’re right. Callistephus chinensis.
Beautiful 😀
Thanks, Cee.
Great colour!
It’s got a sweetness about it.
Lovely – both the colour and the photograph!
Thanks, Ann.
Nicely framed as always
A group portrait, of the flowering type.
These are gorgeous, Susan 💜
Thanks, Clare
