Fragrant lilies in a corner of the garden at Wollerton Old Hall against a backdrop of hedging, roses and clematis. Wouldn’t a tumble of lilies make a great collective noun?

I LOVE Lilies and these are gorgeous. Are these from your garden??
No, sadly not. Wollerton Old Hall is a lovely private garden open to the public some afternoons during the year.
This is the first year in the last 8 I have not grown Lilium regale. I have really missed the scent. They never looked as delicious as these though. What a wonderful shot Susan.
The fragrance of lilies seems designed to be outside rather than inside. It can get a bit overpowering indoors but when it’s free to drift on the wind it really comes into its own. The image seems to get clearer if you click on it to enlarge it. I’d have expected it to be more blurry, so that’s weird – I’ll have to try to find out why that’s happening.
What a wonderful sight 🙂
Wow! Marvelous flowers and photo! I’ve never seen a tumble of lilies like this.

Another gorgeous photo by Susan Rushton. A tumble of lilies! Lilium regale, I think. I grow one pot of them. Now I lust after this kind of border. I don’t think the resident chipmunks would permit one, though.
Yes. Especially after last night’s gales
Oh so beautiful!
