Some nice witty ones
Glad to raise a smile.
I’ve never come across a mermaid but I would never make her cross. 🙂
Probably wisest.
I’ve never been in the Griffin so I don’t know how true it is but at one time it had the reputation of being a bit of a rough place though it’s supposed to be okay now. I took a photo of the artwork a couple of years ago. I don’t think you could square this one as it’s too tall but there’s a great greyhound mural on the side of the Greyhound pub on Deansgate.
This was taken a while back too. We have friends called Griffin and that’s what caught my eye at the time.
All brilliant candidates – yes, even the mermaid.
I’ve been trying to think of a northern sign we ought to have but don’t. We do have signs on the moors that have arrows pointing in just about every direction without any words. I dare say they’d seem odd if I hadn’t grown up with them.
‘appen.
I approve that they are strict about no riff-raff, but I’m laughing out loud about “when the levee breaks.” Thank you!
The ad’s amusing, but when the Mississippi levee broke in 1927, it was one of the worst disasters in U.S. history. I once met a man outside Bolivar, Mississippi whose grandfather was on the levee that day — amazing stories!
I don’t doubt that!
I suppose dark humour marks us as a species.
I never thought of it that way, but of course!
That’s a good-looking griffin, Susan. We have a very similar mermaid on a bollard here. I always smile at her.
They really ought to be alongside trenches of water to show proper consideration for mermaids.
🤣💟
I’ve stayed at the Shack Up Inn — with a name like that, who’d pass on the opportunity?
We’ve stayed there too. Not a place you’d easily forget!
Who determines whether one is riffraff or not? The riffraff him- or herself, or the proprietor? Great collection.
I dare say riff raffiness, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. Or should that be riff raffianosity?
Fabulous collection Susan 🙂 🙂
I’m glad they appealed.
Neat! That last one’s especially good.
I have another one like it lost in my files – more of an accidental one.
oh wow what superb signs. Love that you have these all in your collection, and that we are now being treated to them all. All made me smile 🙂
You’d expect I’d have files full of odd things, but the trouble is considering them odd. It appears I have a broad tolerances for oddnesses!
hee hee, you are not alone in being like this with oddness!
The sign by the cemetery gave me a laugh! This is a fun collection! 🙂
It’s curious isn’t it.
