I’d heard that The Dorothy Clive Garden is at its peak in spring, so I headed over there yesterday to find out for myself. What do you think? Continue reading “Dorothy Clive Garden”
Magnolias: the scent of the South
I wish I could share the heady, sweet, warm and complex scent of these voluptuous magnolias: sadly all I have is memories and photos. If you’ve inhaled their perfume in the past, try drawing on your scent memory as you look at the pictures – it works at least a little for me! Continue reading “Magnolias: the scent of the South”
Enveloped in roses
This week’s photo challenge is enveloped. Once happily established, a climbing rose will cover its support, then smother it with blooms. Rosarians explain that the trick is to match the potential size of the plant with the scale of the structure you want to clothe. Choose a rose that is too vigorous and you’ll have the heartbreak of cutting many healthy flowering stems away. Get it right and you’re in for a treat!
Art in the garden: wooden head
It’s hard to explain why one particular work of art immediately appeals to you, while another doesn’t. It’s often an instinctive, love-at-first-sight for me – something that defies reason. Continue reading “Art in the garden: wooden head”
Border at Kiftsgate Court
My recent post on Hidcote’s red border – and seeing so many pictures of tulips appearing in my Reader – inspired me to share this picture. It shows another colour themed planting, this time at Kiftsgate Court Gardens.
I believe this is the yellow border, pictured here early in the season – thought it does looks more like chocolate, orange and lime in this view, so perhaps you know differently! It reaches its peak of flowering – and, no doubt, yellowness – in August and September. Continue reading “Border at Kiftsgate Court”
Blogging tips: tags and categories
Think of tags and categories (and their associated widgets) as free adverts for your post – on your blog and in the wider WordPress community – and make them work for you and your visitors.
Use tags and categories to:
- Help bloggers discover your post in The Reader
- Place sign posts on your blog so visitors can find other content that interests them while they’re there
- Organise your blog and link posts by subject matter
- Review what you’ve achieved so far and plan where you’re going
Kilpeck Carvings
Looking through other blogger’s submissions for this week’s photo challenge: intricate took me back a few years.
My sweetheart had read that some fine examples of carved green men were beautifully preserved at the Church of St Mary and St David in Kilpeck, Herefordshire, and was keen to see them. Continue reading “Kilpeck Carvings”
