I wanted to share this picture of a bee exploring a mass of flowers at the recent RHS Tatton Flower Show. My iPhone shot isn’t perfect but I like the muted colours, the softness and the textures.
The bee may appear to be resting in this shot (we did see a large, intoxicated-seeming bee sleeping in a striped rose) but it was far from the ideal model, intently waggling all over the alliums, making the usual incoherent bee satisfaction and interest noises.
For a gardener or a flower-loving photographer, an RHS show is a rich experience, but how remarkable it must be for insects. I dare say they go back foraging after the show has been dismantled and wonder if the flowers were just a dream.

You do need to get pretty close up with an iPhone – luckily this little guy (or girl) was too busy to pay any attention to me.

No – the only thing was I took six or so shots of different groups of people and picked the one that seemed most interesting in silhouette.
