   1. I think these are the blue ones – my favourites, although it’s a moot point.

6. My first impression was onions.

   1. Nature reinvents itself and has chains of connection we don’t yet figure. Apparently hyacinths are in the same family as asparagus, tricyrtis, agave and yucca while onions are in the amaryllis family, but you probably knew that. Plant classifications appear to come from the same kind of mindset as the offside rule in football (our version).

7. They make me think of red onions. I wonder if they are edible.

   1. I checked: they are not edible, but they do look as if they might be.

8. They look like onions. Only you can tell me if they taste like them as well.

   1. Apparently hyacinths contain oxalic acid and would poison us if we ate them.

      1. Well I will avoid eating them then.
